Dear people,

Stop telling people to listen to the engine instead of the radio when you're driving if the stereo sucks. You know what? 90% of driving is mundane point to point in traffic, barring special outings and road trips. How many people are going to enjoy sitting and listening to an engine barely ticking over? Yes, turn your radio off when you flog the car. You shouldn't have the distraction at that point regardless of engine noise. But when I'm commuting to and from work during the daily grind, 2100 RPMs at 40 mph ain't doing me shit for entertainment.

Yeah, if I'm driving a car with a massive engine and overly loud exhaust, I probably won't be using a radio. If I'm taking a car to my favorite driving road and doing some spirited driving, I won't be using a radio. But even in a supercar or some other fast car (that you own and drive somewhat regularly), being stuck in stop and go traffic where you barely break 10 mph is going to get incredibly boring without something to listen to.

So stop using that ridiculous argument every time someone says the radio sucks in a car.

I love the way my Miata sounds but I don't want to hear it drone on the highway at 3000 rpm for 30 minutes at a time.

Indeed. My Acura CL sounds amazing at high RPMs, but it ticks over at 2400 RPM at 65 on the highway and barely makes a peep doing it. Frequently I'll drive without the radio on just to enjoy the car, but sometimes I'm way too bored to sit through that on my daily commute.

Even if I kept my car at 6000 RPM for 10 minutes straight I'd get tired of a constant RPM. It's running up and down the rev range that sounds good.

I'm also pretty sure your engine would get out of the car and slap you for it.

Agreed. That does get pretty annoying, especially when any review says anything about the stereo and you see in the comments: "WHO THE FUCK CARES about the stereo? LISTEN TO THAT ENGINE!!!!"

I modded my exhaust so I could have the best of both worlds! Nice exhaust note to remind me I'm driving a car, and a nice speaker system so I don't have to listen to 3.8 liters of DRONE when I'm cruising on the highway.

Exactly. I'm not telling people they can't do or have both.

Who says this? People with am radios maybe lol. Most factory stereos on the last 20 years sound just fine.
